Soccer Registration Overview

Boys and Girls from ages 5 (or mature 4½ in some clubs) to age 18 are all invited to play in one of the clubs of Southwest Washington Youth Soccer Association.

All players have to register within a club for each season. Registrations are done online with some clubs also offering walk-in registration dates and / or mail in forms.

Teams are formed from open registrations or from try outs.

Open registration is for players of all ages and abilities. These players will play on recreation level teams in September through the middle of November.

Open registration generally takes place during May and June. After that time, registrations are accepted only on a space available basis and may incur a late fee.

Requests to play on a specific team or with friends are accepted by most clubs during open registration period. Most clubs follow a strict policy of first come, first served on specific team requests. Although every effort is made to fill these special requests, it should be noted that all recreation teams are formed by the club registrar whose decision is final.

Try out teams are formed in spring – generally in March and April. See Premier / Select Leagues for more information on try out teams.

Go to Registration-> How / Where to Register for registration instructions and to see which soccer club covers your area.

Players register in a club – not here at the association level. SWYSA has 4 clubs within the association. – Click here for Links to SWYSA Clubs.

Things to know about soccer:

A player's soccer age depends on their birth year.

Ages in soccer are shown as "U-age", that is, a player and team are under that age. For example, a player who is ten years old on July 31st would play U-11 this fall. Click here for Player Age Chart.

New players are required to submit proof of their date of birth. Acceptable documents include a state issued birth certificate or a passport. Hospital certificates are not sufficient.

Fall Soccer Practices generally begin in early August with the season starting the Saturday after Labor Day. Players ages 12 and younger play “small-sided” games ranging from 3 players at a time from each team on the field at U-6 ages to 9 players on the field at U-12. U-13 and older play full-sided games (11-a-side).
