NEW PLAYER AGE CHART BEGINNING WITH THE 2016/17 SEASONAL YEAR

U.S. Soccer Initiatives

Beginning with the 2016/2017 seasonal year, U.S. Soccer has implemented two major changes. These two initiatives mandate small-sided games at Under-12 and a move from school year (Aug. 1-July 31) to calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31) age groups.

U.S. Soccer Official Announcement

USSF's schedule for the rule changes will be to adopt as best practices beginning August of 2016, and mandate as of August of 2017.

US Youth Soccer will implement calendar year age grouping for player registration beginning with the 2016-2017 soccer year for all US Youth Soccer programs and competitions. To align with regional and national competitions, Oregon Youth Soccer will also adopt the calendar year age grouping for State-run programs beginning August of 2016. Oregon Youth Soccer Cups and Leagues will be run on calendar year age groups starting with the 2016-2017 season. There will be no change to the Olympic Development Program or RTC programs, as the programs already operate by calendar year, or TOPSoccer, which operates by skill level.
